Metro disrupted as young man activates emergency system

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A 21-year-old man on Tuesday set off the Emergency Trip System (ETS) on the metro in Bengaluru, causing a 10-minute disruption on the Purple Line, according to media reports. The Namma Metro staf f identified the individual and imposed a Rs 5000 fine on him for activating the system without any valid reason. The incident occurred at MG Road station, where Hemant Kumar, a resident of Vivek Nagar, activated the ETS as the train was arriving from Trinity station. This action halted the train for 10 minutes, affecting all Purple Line services. Kumar reboarded the train once it resumed operation and disembarked at Cubbon Park station.

Metro staff, who tracked Hemant via CCTV, approached him at Cubbon Park and questioned him about the incident. He admitted that he had activated the ETS out of curiosity and for fun. This event follows a similar occurrence involving a 19-year-old law student who jumped onto the tracks at Attiguppe station. Recent incidents like these have heightened calls for installing safety screens across all metro platforms in Bengaluru to prevent such disruptions and ensure passenger safety.
