The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) has joined hands with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in an initiative aimed at clearing overgrown vegetation, including tree branches, creepers, bushes, and shrubs that have rapidly grown due to recent monsoon rains. This collaborative effort is designed to prevent disruptions in the power supply, enhance public safety, and ensure smoother maintenance operations.
Following the heavy monsoon rains in Bengaluru, significant vegetation growth has been observed around critical electrical infrastructure such as streetlights, electrical poles, distribution lines, transformer centres, and LT feeder pillar boxes. To address these concerns, BBMP has initiated the systematic pruning and removal of overgrown vegetation near electrical infrastructure. Mahantesh Bilagi, MD of BESCOM, emphasised the company's commitment to providing uninterrupted power and ensuring public safety. He noted, "All sub-divisional officers within BMAZ (Bengaluru Metropolitan Area Zone) have been instructed to identify and clear overgrown vegetation affecting electrical infrastructure. This will be done in close collaboration with BBMP ward officers." To support the initiative, BESCOM officers have been directed to ensure the availability of necessary manpower, materials, vehicles, and equipment. These efforts will ensure that the clearance of vegetation is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
Once the vegetation is removed, it will be disposed of at designated areas identified by BBMP, ensuring no debris is left behind.
BESCOM officers will oversee the proper disposal process and maintain detailed records of the removal activities. These records will include information on identified areas, the resources used, and the status of vegetation disposal.
