Under fire K'taka HC judge expresses 'regret'
NT Correspondent Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court (HC) judge Vedavyasachar Srishananda, who is in the centre of a controversy expressed regret for some of his remarks during a couple of hearings. However, he qualified his clarification with the allegation that his comments were taken out of context. “A few observations made during judicial proceedings were reported out of context in the social media platforms. The observations were unintentional and not to hurt any individual or any section of the society.
If such observations hurt any individual or any section of the society or community, I express my sincere regrets,” Srishananda said. The HC justice came under fire for his observations, clippings of which were being shared widely on social media. During an August 28 hearing, Srishananda had referred to a Muslim-majority locality in Bengaluru as Pakistan and implied traffic police couldn’t enforce rules there due to the lawless nature of the community. In another observation, the judge told a woman advocate she knew too much about the opposite party and might have knowledge of the colour of his underwear.
