Nimhans hosts Mental Health Santhe 3.0 to promote awareness

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) hosted Mental Health Santhe 3.0 on October 15, at its Convention Centre. The event aimed to raise awareness about mental health, tackle stigma and promote dialogue on suicide prevention. Thousands of attendees, including mental health professionals, caregivers, students, and the general public, participated. The event featured over 70 stalls from organisations dedicated to mental health and suicide prevention. These stalls highlighted various interventions, research findings and support systems to address mental health challenges. The day began with an inaugural address by Dr. K.S. Meena, Head of the Department of Mental Health Education at Nimhans.

She emphasised the importance of prioritising mental health in public discussions. Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials aimed at educating the public on mental health issues were also released at the santhe. These materials are designed to be accessible and engaging for all age groups. Chief Guest Arundathi Nag, Managing Trustee of Ranga Shankara, praised Nimhans for its work in mental health awareness. She encouraged self-care and emphasised the value of hobbies for well-being. The event concluded with a presidential address by Dr. Pratima Murthy, Director of Nimhans, reiterating the institute's commitment to mental health advocacy. Various dramas were performed, addressing topics such as epilepsy, suicide prevention, and schizophrenia, aiming to break the stigma and promote mental well-being.
