Tilting six-storey structure razed
NT Correspondent Bengaluru: A six-storey building under construction at Nanjappa Garden near Horamavu which was dangerously tilting sparking concerns among residents, is undergoing demolition. The incident, the latest in a series of structural issues in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits, follows the recent tragic collapse in Babusapalya in the city where nine workers lost their lives. Owned by Puttappa, the Nanjappa Garden building had received approval for just four storeys but was illegally expanded to six. The BBMP, upon inspection, issued an immediate demolition order, with the owner agreeing in writing to bear all costs. Banashankari Sub-Division Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Umashankar visited the site to oversee safety measures, including power disconnection by BESCOM officials. Adjacent residents have been evacuated as a precaution.
Responding to the safety concerns, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who is also Bengaluru’s Development Minister, emphasized the city’s commitment to addressing unauthorized and hazardous constructions. He ordered strict action against all structures within BBMP limits that lack proper permissions, asserting that substandard constructions will not be tolerated. "We will ensure swift action against any negligence," he remarked.
