The city, a major hub for employment and innovation, is facing increasing crime rates linked to migrants of North Indian origin. According to senior police officials, many of these individuals work in sectors such as construction, food delivery, and hospitality. However, a concerning number have reportedly become involved in criminal activities, driven by a desire for quick money. The city’s global reputation for IT and innovation is at risk due to these incidents, particularly drug-related crimes among food delivery workers.

Reports indicate that nearly 50% of individuals charged in narcotics cases are linked to this sector, with some using their roles to distribute illegal substances like ganja and MDMA under the guise of food delivery. Additionally, violent incidents in pubs and bars have raised safety concerns, especially for the IT workforce frequenting these venues.

Two high-profile murders involving North Indian migrants, including the killings of Mahalakshmi and Kriti Kumari, have intensified debates on crime and safety in residential areas, such as paying guest accommodations. Authorities emphasize the need for enhanced measures to curb rising criminal activities and protect residents.
