CM lays foundation for Rs 220 cr works of Maharanis college

Reiterating the state goverment's commitment to the empowerment of women, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said his government has implemented all the five poll guarantees including Gruhalakshmi and the Shakthi scheme providing free rides for women in state-run buses. The CM was speaking after launching works worth Rs 220 crore to upgrade facilities at Maharani’s Science and Maharani’s Arts colleges. He said the construction of a hostel to accommodate 1600 girls studying at Maharanis Colleges at a cost of Rs 170 crore, is aimed at empowering them. As many as 11000 girls students who come from economically weaker sections are currently studying in these colleges in Mysuru. The work at the colleges will be completed in the next 24 months, he said.
The CM also lamented that discrimination of women continues today even after the enactment of various laws and the Constitution of India guaranteeing equal rights and opportunities for women. In his speech, state higher education minister Dr M C Sudhakar said the upgradation work at Maharani's College building will be taken up without causing any damage to heritage structures.Arsikere MLA KM Shivalingegowda criticized opposition leaders for targeting the CM. Presiding over the event, Chamaraja MLA K Harishgowda appealed to district minister H C Mahadevappa to initiate measures to name KRS road after CM Siddaramaih as he was instrumental in improving medical care facilities along the stretch including the construction of Jayadeva heart hospital, district hospital and a trauma care centre. Mysuru has seen a lot of development works during the tenure of CM Siddaramiah, he added.
