Amazon India is preparing to relocate its corporate headquarters from the World Trade Centre in north-west Bengaluru to a new site on the city’s outskirts, a mere 15-minute drive from the airport. The move, part of a cost-cutting initiative, is expected to begin in April 2025 and conclude by April 2026. Currently, the e-commerce giant occupies nearly half a million square feet of office space at the WTC, paying rent of ?250 per square foot. According to media reports, the relocation will substantially reduce expenses, with Amazon set to pay less than one-third of its current rent at the new premises.

This decision is in line with a broader trend among technology companies aiming to cut operational costs. The surge in demand for tech products during the pandemic has subsided, prompting businesses to adapt to a post-pandemic economy characterised by higher interest rates and slower growth.

Amazon’s existing office is part of a sprawling 40-acre mixed-use complex offering a range of amenities, including over 1,200 residential flats, a shopping mall, a five-star hotel, a hospital, a school, and recreational facilities such as a club and a jogging track. The relocation reflects Amazon’s efforts to optimise resources while maintaining operational efficiency, underscoring its commitment to navigating evolving economic challenges.
