State to lead way in climate action monitoring

Karnataka took a major step forward in climate action with a high-level policy dialogue on Subnational Climate Action and Monitoring. The event aimed to strengthen the monitoring framework of the Karnataka State Action Plan on Climate Change (KSAPCC). The event, organised by the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) in partnership with the Environmental Management & Policy Research Institute (EMPRI) and Hanns Seidel Stiftung (HSS) India, featured key stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, NGOs and domain experts. Eshwar B. Khandre, Karnataka’s Hon’ble Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment, delivered the keynote address and unveiled the KSAPCC Monitoring Dashboard.
This innovative tool tracks the progress of Karnataka’s climate action plans, ensuring transparency and accountability. "The KSAPCC Monitoring Dashboard is a critical step toward evidence-based policy implementation, enabling informed decision-making for a sustainable future," Minister Khandre stated. The event highlighted strategies to address monitoring challenges, showcased national and global best practices and emphasised community engagement and technology’s role in fostering transparency. Rejini Simpson, Programme Director at CEE, highlighted gaps in monitoring and reporting. Meanwhile, Sandeep Kumar Dubey of HSS India called for innovative solutions to enhance climate action monitoring.
