Nova IVF Fertility, a fertility chain in India, recently organised a conference in collaboration with the Bengaluru Society of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (BSOG). The event, attended by 200-250 leading obstetricians, gynaecologists, and fertility professionals, focused on the latest trends in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). Fertility specialists discussed the impact of lifestyle factors such as smoking, excessive drinking, a sedentary lifestyle, and irregular sleep patterns on fertility. These behaviours disrupt hormonal balance, contributing to infertility. The increasing trend of delayed parenthood, driven by career goals or challenges in finding the right partner, has led many couples to seek fertility treatments later in life. A key topic of discussion was the rise in social egg freezing, with specialists noting that they receive at least 10 inquiries per month.

This procedure allows women to preserve their fertility by freezing eggs before age-related decline. It is particularly important for women with medical conditions like cancer or endometriosis, which can compromise fertility. Dr Aviva Pinto Rodrigues, a fertility specialist at Nova IVF Fertility, highlighted the need for increased awareness of egg freezing for medical reasons. Dr Mahesh Koregol emphasised the accelerated ageing of ovaries in women and the growing trend of egg freezing.
