As part of the annual global campaign of the United Nations titled “16 days of activism against Genderbased violence,” 200 women, trans people and activists gathered to discuss ideas on bringing about change in gender violence at the presence of General Secretary of the All India Mahila Congress Sowmya Reddy recently.

Taking forward its ongoing campaign around issues of impunity, accountability and transformation the public dialogue titled Sexual Violence: Impunity, Accountability and Transformation revolved around a powerful performance by well-known theatre artist Maya Rao titled “Walk.” The solo performance questioned “If Change Happens” and raised troubling issues of gender in relation to caste, class and community notions of consent based on true stories.

Following the performance, women of several organisations and communities including trans people, choultry workers, garment workers, and sex workers responded to it with examples from their lives.
