59,772 teacher posts vacant in primary and high schools: Min

There are 59,772 teacher posts vacant in government primary and high schools in the state, and the recruitment process for 13,500 teachers has been completed, said School Education and Literacy Minister S. Madhu Bangarappa in the Assembly. During the Question Hour on Thursday, the Minister, in response to a question raised by MLA Byrathi Basavaraju on behalf of BJP MLA K. Gopalaiah, stated that there are a total of 46,755 schools in the state and 1,65,618 teaching posts. Of these, 50,067 posts are vacant in primary education and 9,705 posts are vacant in high schools.

To ensure students do not face any issues, 45,000 guest teachers have been appointed. The process for appointing 13,500 teachers has already been completed, with 12,000 teachers appointed so far. The matter of appointing 700 teachers is currently pending in the Supreme Court. Additionally, the process of appointing 5,300 teachers has begun in Kalyan Karnataka. In the previous government, only 4,500 teachers were appointed in a span of three and a half years.

The appointment of teachers for aided schools has also been allowed. There is a shortage of 20 teachers in the Mahalaxmi Layout assembly constituency, for which guest teachers have been appointed. Over the last three years, Rs. 278 lakh has been sanctioned for the construction of 20 classrooms, and Rs. 241.19 lakh has already been released, he added.
