Bengaluru: Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya has addressed growing public frustration over the repeated delays in the launch of the Namma Metro Yellow Line, citing the unavailability of trains as the primary issue. Surya assured residents that efforts are underway to resolve these challenges and provided updates on the progress made so far.

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has faced sharp criticism for missing multiple deadlines for the Yellow Line's commencement. Surya revealed that he has been working closely with train manufacturer Titagarh Rail Systems over the past few months to expedite train production. He noted that several hurdles, such as securing visas for engineers, have been resolved and the manufacturer has now dedicated a production line exclusively for BMRCL trains. “The first train is ready to be dispatched to Bengaluru on January 6,” Surya announced. According to the timeline shared by Titagarh, the second train is expected by late January or early February, with the third set to arrive in April. Subsequently, the manufacturer aims to deliver one train per month, increasing production to two trains per month by September.

In a social media post, Surya expressed his commitment to ensuring the project progresses swiftly. “I have requested Hon. MoHUA Minister to visit the manufacturing plant on 6th January, flag off the trains to Bengaluru, and also inspect the plant to help further expedite things. I will also be present in Kolkata for the same,” he wrote. Addressing public disappointment, he added, “Like all of you, I am equally frustrated with the repeated delays in the start of #YellowLine. On another occasion, I will explain how complicated the situation was. But for now, let me assure you that I will do everything possible to get this started as soon as possible.” Surya also emphasised the importance of BMRCL securing necessary approvals from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) to prevent further delays in operations.

The 19.5 km Yellow Line, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra, is a critical addition to Bengaluru’s metro network. Key stations on this route include BTM Layout, Silk Board Junction, and Electronic City, offering commuters a smoother travel experience.
