Bengaluru: Bangalore University has taken a step in promoting innovation and safeguarding academic research with the establishment of its Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell. In collaboration with the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, the university has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further its commitment to supporting groundbreaking research across multiple disciplines. Known for its research in technology, science, social sciences and commerce, Bangalore University has secured nearly 70 patents over the past five years.

The newly formed IPR Cell aims to increase this number significantly by providing greater support to researchers and innovators within the university. The IPR Cell will serve as a platform for students, researchers and faculty members to protect their intellectual property. It will assist in obtaining patents, copyrights, trade secrets and trademarks for inventions and research. Additionally, the cell will cover government renewal fees for patents and conduct regular awareness programs to educate and encourage researchers. It will also create opportunities for collaboration, offering platforms to further develop new ideas and innovations. Dr Jayakara S.M., Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, highlighted the significance of the IPR Cell, describing it as a historic achievement.

"Innovation, research, and study are the cornerstones of societal progress, and our university has created an ecosystem to foster this. It is essential that our research leads to inventions that benefit society, and I urge our students and researchers to take full advantage of this opportunity," he stated. Prof. Krishnamurthy G., Coordinator of the PR Cell, nderscored the importance of intellectual property protection.
