Nearly 7 lakh properties built without Khata: BBMP chief

Bengaluru: Citing increase in illegal acquisition of properties in the city, BBMP is looking to tighten rules of obtaining eKhata. He made these comments at a press interaction here on Wednesday. There were reports that CM Siddaramiah suggested a deadline of February 10 to obtain the final eKhatas, to avoid illegal property registrations. He urged citizens to convert their draft eKhatas to its final version as soon as possible to avoid server crashes and eventual data losses.
He also revealed that 7 lakh properties with a connection from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) may be illegal, recalling notes from the meeting with the CM, which features Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda. “There is no fixed time yet, but the government is certain to announce one. We are focusing on strengthening our policy in avoiding buildings which do not have a Khata,” he said.
That policy change, according to reports, is the 2021 Amendment to Section 17 of the Karnataka Town and Country (KTPC) Planning Act, 1961, which mandates prior approval from all planning authorities for property registrations, including single sites. This may avoid division of single sites and obtaining A Khatas without an Occupancy Certificate.
