NT Correspondent

Bengaluru: Ahead of the 15th Aero India Air Show at the Yelahanka Air Force Station in North Bengaluru, meat shops within its 13 kilometre radius will be shut from January 23rd to February 23rd, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) announced on Saturday. The Air show is scheduled to happen between February 10 and 14. Hundreds of supersonic fighter jets from the country and abroad are expected to participate, making it a spectacular display. This restriction is aimed to ensure hygiene and airspace safety.

Exposure of meat may attract scavengers in this zone and would threaten their lives as jets would actively be flying. Violation of the said rule will attract action under the BBMP Act 2020 and Aircraft Rules Action will be taken as per Rule 91 of 1937 and other legal provisions. Joint Commissioner of the Yelahanka zone Mohammed Naeem Momin had announced these restrictions. Recently, the Palike had announced restrictions on cranes used in construction of high-rise buildings within a radius of 10kms from the airbase.

Builders were told to reduce the height of the said crane or halt operations from February 1 to February 14. The BBMP has banned sale of meat within this radius everytime the Yelahanka air station hosted previous Aero shows every two years in the city, where defence and civilian aircraft are showcased. The event is expected to attract industry experts, aviation aficionados and the general public.
