MCC hosts conference on biodiversity, climate change and sustainability

Bengaluru: Mount Carmel College Autonomous, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), hosted a successful twoday international conference on January 17 and 18, focusing on key issues related to biodiversity, climate change, and sustainability. The event emphasised the necessity of cross-disciplinary collaboration to tackle the pressing environmental challenges the world faces today. The conference brought together students, professionals and academics who engaged in discussions on innovative solutions aimed at protecting nature and building a sustainable future.

The inaugural ceremony was marked by the presence of Harish Hande, CEO and Ramon Magsaysay Award winner, and Katragadda, CEO of Myelin Foundry. The keynote address was delivered by Vinita Damodaran from the University of Sussex, who highlighted the significance of environmental history in understanding and addressing current ecological concerns. Several impactful sessions followed, with highlights including a presentation on sustainability and the circular economy by Joanna Kane Potaka from Brisbane, Australia.

She emphasised the need for smarter, more sustainable solutions to achieve substantial environmental impact. Nallapaneni Manoj Kumar from the University of Hong Kong also discussed the importance of circular infrastructure. A panel discussion on bridging education and action provided valuable insights into integrating climate knowledge into practical, real-world applications.
