
Kabini water project 2nd stage nearing completion, Mysuru to get addl 40 MLD drinking water

Mysuru: Mysuru will get an additional 40 million liters per day (MLD) later this year as the Kabini Drinking Water project’s II Stage is completed to the extent of 90 per cent. A team of officials led by Mysuru district in-charge minister H C Mahadevappa accompanied by Chamundeshwari MLA G T Devegowda, KEA chairman Ayub Khan, Mysuru DC Lakshmikanth Reddy, former MUD commissioner Rajiv and MCC commissioner Sheik Tanvir Asif on Sunday visited the project site at Bidaragodu in Nanjangud taluk and reviewed the progress with officials.
The minister said that MCC and Mysuru Urban Development Authority have decided to upgrade the facility to ensure uninterrupted water supply to south-western parts of Mysuru city by drawing more water from Kabini river. Fom Bidaragodu Jackwell, water will be pumped to Kembalu Pumping Station where water will be chlorinated and pumped to Udbur unit and supplied to Mysuru city. The entire upgradation project has been taken up at a cost of Rs 150 crore. The project will help supply 180MLD water to both Muda-formed layouts and Muda-approved private layouts including RT Nagar, JP Nagar, University Layout, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Nagar, and layouts along the ring road. The minister said that 90 percent of the works were completed now barring minor electrification works and all the works will be compled in six months to ensure adequate drinking water to Mysuru.
He said that the project is expected to meet the water needs of both MUDA-developed new localities and privately formed layouts in south western parts of the city, which is growing by leaps and bounds in all directions. The master balancing reservoirs (MBRs) will be increased to six from the existing two at Kalalawadi and Dhanagalli.
New MBRs are coming up at Kuppaluru, Halalu, Hosahundi and Bogadhi under the project. The 11 KV power station at Udbur Gate Water Supply Plant has been upgraded to 66/6 KV and another three power sub-stations were set up so that more quantity of water can be drawn from Kabini river that flows close to Bidaragodu.
