Mysuru: The Mysuru Chalo protest organized by Rashtra Suraksha Janandolan Samithi, a rightwing organisation and BJP to condemn the Udayagiri police station attack, was held peacefully at Maharaja College grounds in the city following High Court directions. The court permitted the protest from 3 pm to 5 pm and it concluded in the conspicuous absence of prominent state BJP leaders like R Ashoka and B Y Vijayendra who had earlier announced that they would take part in the protest. During the protest, state BJP vice president N Mahesh condemned the 'appeasement politics' of the Congress government for not acting tough against the accused involved in stone pelting in the Udayagiri violence.
Even though the police filed an FIR against 1000 people allegedly involved, they have arrested only 23 people so far, he claimed. He asked the police to arrest all the accused involved in the incident. Rashtra Suraksha Janandolan Committee convener K T Ullas alleged the involvement of PFI activists in the Udayagiri stone pelting. BJP MLA Srivatsa said Muslims youth had attacked the police station in DJ Halli in Bengaluru earlier adding that this kind of incident should not happen in Mysuru. The court then gave conditional permission from 3 pm. The court also directed that the whole protest should be videographed adding that the protesters should not make provocative statements and will be held responsible in case of any incident that disturbs peace and harmony. Earlier in the morning. defying the prohibitory orders, State BJP President B Y Vijayendra and Opposition leader R Ashoka besides former MP Pratap Simha arrived in the city to attend the protest, but the police prevented them.
