K’taka sets vision to position itself as global tourism hub

Bengaluru: After the successful launch of the inaugural Karnataka International Travel Expo, the Tourism Department officially commenced the second edition of ‘KITE 2025’ at the Taj West End on Wednesday. The objective of ‘KITE 2025’ is to enhance Karnataka's position as a premier global tourism destination, uniting industry leaders and stakeholders from around the globe. This three-day event, which began on February 26, will showcase the state's diverse culture, heritage, adventure offerings, and wellness tourism.

Boost tourism with infrastructure: At the inauguration, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasised the state’s commitment to transforming Karnataka into a premier tourism destination with the launch of the Tourism Policy 2025-26. Highlighting Karnataka’s diverse offerings, he said that the state boasts a rich heritage, vibrant culture, and vast tourism potential.

"Karnataka has everything a traveller seeks from the architectural marvels of Hampi to the pristine beaches along our coastline," he said. Saying that the government is focused on infrastructure and connectivity to boost tourism, the CM said: "We are dedicated to improving road networks, expanding railway services, and upgrading airports to provide seamless travel experiences."

Invest in tourism development: Law, Parliamentary Affairs, and Tourism Minister H K Patil highlighted the state’s vast tourism potential, emphasising both its well-known attractions and hidden gems. “Karnataka is a state that offers something unique at every turn. Every journey in Karnataka tells a story,” he said.

He said that the state government is making a significant push to boost tourism, with an investment of Rs 200 crore and 120 tourism projects already approved and in progress. “Our goal is to create a thriving tourism sector by improving infrastructure, enhancing visitor experiences, and promoting lesser-explored destinations,” Patil added.

Opens doors to global tourism: Rizwan Arshad, MLA of Shivajinagar assembly constituency, emphasised the state’s growing presence on the global tourism map. “We have now opened the state to the world, offering travellers an opportunity to experience Karnataka’s rich heritage, natural beauty, and cultural diversity,” he said. He described Karnataka as a “land of infinite possibilities,” highlighting the government’s commitment to making the state a premier travel destination.

“With world-class infrastructure, sustainable tourism initiatives, and a focus on promoting both iconic landmarks and hidden treasures, Karnataka is ready to welcome visitors from across the globe,” Arshad said. This investment is expected to enhance connectivity, develop tourism circuits, and position Karnataka as a premier destination for both domestic and international travellers. Higher Education Minister Dr M C Sudhakar, Chairman of Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation chairman M Srinivas, political secretary to the CM Dr K Gonvindaraju and MLA Salma K Fahim IAS and others were present on the occasion.

Organised by the Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka, and the Karnataka Tourism Society, ‘KITE 2025’ will facilitate B2B networking, business collaborations, and knowledge exchange. The event features over 400 hosted buyers from India and abroad, with 150 plus stakeholders representing Karnataka’s tourism sector.
