
Maha Shivaratri celebrated with fervour in Mysuru

Mysuru: A sea of devotees thronged all major Shiva temples, including the Trineshwara temple at Mysuru Palace, the Srikanteshwara temple in Nanjangud, and the Male Mahadeshwara temple atop MM Hills on Wednesday on Maha Shivaratri day. All the Shiva temples were decorated with flowers and illumination arrangements were made from Tuesday evening. People queued up outside Shiva temples to offer special prayers from early morning.
Mysuru royal family scion Yaduveer Wadiyar with his wife Trishikha Devi Wadiyar and the couple’s two sons visited Trineshwara temple where the deity was adorned with an 11-kg gold mask( Chinnada Kolaga). The 25th and last Maharaja of Mysore Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, donated Chinnada Kolaga to Sri Trineshwaraswamy Temple to fulfil the vow on the birth of his son (Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar) in the year 1952.
Similarly, the Kolagas were also donated to Nanjangud Srikanteshwara Swamy Temple and Male Mahadeshwara Swamy Temple at Male Mahadeshwara Hills (MM Hills). Speaking to reporters on the occasion, Yaduveer said that he prayed to Lord Shiva to bless all people for peace and prosperity. He said his second son is named Yugadyaksha Krishnaraja Wadiyar. Devotees also thronged Chamundi temple to offer special pujas.
