Mahabaleshwara car festival held atop Chaumundi Hill

Mysuru: The Brahma Rathotsava of Sri Mahabaleshwara Swamy atop Chamundi Hill was held with all rituals and religious fervor in the city on Thursday. Hundreds of devotees participated in the car festival including Mysuru MP Yaduveer Wadiyar The idol of Mahabaleshwara adorned with the golden crown was taken out in a flower bedecked chariot around the hill covering the main entrance and the temple of Goddess Chamundeshwari between 7.55 am and 8.25 am.

The police band rendered musical notes adding to the religious fervour in the early morning hours. As a prelude, various rituals were held at the temple from March 13. Vrishabha Vahana puja ritual was held on Wednesday while Panchami Kalasha Rohana followed by Gajarohana programme and other rituals were also conducted. Sri Mahabaleshwara temple has a history of thousands of years and was constructed by Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana atop Chamundi hills in 1155, according to inscriptions at the temple.
