
Farmers’ sons, daughters bag prizes at police academy

Mysuru: Beating all odds, these four sons and three daughters of farming families from remote villages of the State won laurels after completing their training in Karnataka Police Academy. During the passing out parade 45th batch of KPA on Wednesday they received prizes from home minister Araga Gnanendra.
Basagoud Nerli, who was selected as all-rounder probationer, after he scored the highest marks at KPA is the son of farmers Shankaragoud and Shekavva of Nerli village of Belagavi district. He won the Chief Minister’s trophy, DG-IGP baton, retired DG and IGP Garudachar cash reward. He was even selected for DG and IGP cup for scoring highest marks in outdoor subjects. Basagound had earlier served in army for 16 years. including four years in NSG.
Jyoti M Goolappanavar emerged as the best lady probationer and won home minister’s trophy and Vathsala Garudachar cash reward for scoring highest overall marks among lady probationers in indoor, outdoor and director’s assessment. “I had told my villagers that I would be back with a medal,” she told News Trail.
She is the daughter of Mahabaleshwara, a farmer, and Sharada of Udikeri village of Belagavi district. A BE computer science graduate, she is also a good athlete. Shwetha who bagged the director’s assessment cup after scoring highest marks in directors’ assessment is the BE Civil engineering graduate and daughter of farmers Revanaiahswamy and Dakshayini of Basavakalyana of Bidar. “My parents have not studied much and they are proud that I am the first person to join government service in our family,” she said.
Salima Munavalli H emerged as the best lady probationer for scoring highest marks in outdoor subjects among lady probationers. Paigambar Ammanagi won home minister’s cup for scoring highest marks in indoor subjects.
Shivanand Dharenavar was chosen best in revolver firing for scoring highest marks in revolver/9mm pistol firing. And Santosh Dalawai, was chosen best in rifle firing for scoring highest marks in 7.62 SLR firing.
Their parents watched them bagging prizes and their parade virtually, due to Covid pandemic situation.
