In a tragic accident that occurred on the Old Madras Road near Hosakote, four students of Garden City College, near KR Puram, lost their lives on the spot while two others sustained grievous injuries. The six BBA students, of which two were women, were returning to the city after a long drive in a car. The dead include one woman. The car is said to have struck the median and crashed into an oncoming lorry.
The accident happened at the Attur Gate junction on NH 75 in the wee hours of Wednesday. Police have identified the deceased as Vaishnavi, Bharath, Shireesh and Venkatesh, all aged 20 and 21 years. The injured are Krishnasri and Ankith Reddy, who are undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The condition of Krishnasri is said to be extremely critical. Of the deceased, one was a native of Telangana while the other three hailed from Andhra Pradesh. The two fighting for their lives are also from Andhra Pradesh. They were all staying in paying guest accommodations in nearby TC Palya.
The six students were travelling in a Tamil Naduregistered white Swift. They are said to have gone on the long drive to a coffee shop near Narasapura Industrial Area. While heading back to city, Venkatesh who was at the wheel was reportedly speeding when he lost control over the car and hit the road divider. The impact caused the car to get tossed over the median before crashing into the lorry that was on its way to Kolar. In the process, the car got completely mangled and the police had a tough time extricating the bodies from it.
“Of those who died, apart from Venkatesh, the others were seated at the back of the car. The injured two were sharing the seat next to the driver. Reddy, who is the complainant in the case, is said to have informed the police that they had consumed alcohol. The police have, however, drawn blood samples of the deceased as well as the injured and sent them for testing to ascertain if they were under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” said an officer, who is part of the investigation team.
The post-mortem of two bodies was conducted at the MVJ Medical College and Hospital, while two bodies were shifted to Hosakote Government Hospital. Police have informed family members of all six victims of the unfortunate accident. Hosakote police have registered a case and are investigating it.
