The Sheshadripuram police arrested sandalwood actor and activist Chetan Kumar Ahimsa and is in the process of producing him before the jurisdictional magistrate.

The police action follows repeated tweets by the actor about a high court judge hearing the hijab case, based on which the police registered a suo motu case on Tuesday.

After he was taken into custody, the actor’s wife Megha expressed her anger against Bengaluru police and even appeared live on social media.

She reached Sheshadripuram police station to enquire about the whereabouts of her husband. Megha claimed that her husband was picked up without any notice which, according to her, amounts to kidnapping. She further added that her husband’s mobile and that of his gunman too were switched off.

The police did not inform any family member while taking Chetan into custody, she claimed.

The actor’s supporters too gathered in front of the police station demanding that the cops reveal the whereabouts of the actor.

DCP (Central) MN Anucheth has confirmed the arrest. Further investigations are on. An FIR has been registered under 505(2) and 504 of the IPC.
