In view of the budget session and the inconvenience to motorists, the Congress Party has decided to take out its Mekedatu padayatra inside Bengaluru City for three days instead of five days as planned recently, said KPCC Working President Ramalinga Reddy.
He told reporters here on Friday that the padayatra, urging the state government to construct a balancing reservoir at Mekedatu in Kanakapura taluk, would conclude on February 27-28. From Kengeri, it would proceed via Nayandahalli, Banashankari temple, Jayadeva Hospital, BTM, Koramangala, Vivek Nagar, Halsur, JC Palya, TV Tower and Palace Ground. From there, it would proceed to National College Ground via Sankey Tank, Malleswaram, Seshadri - puram, Railway Station and Chamarajpet.
Asked whether the padayatra’s movement inside Bengaluru would cause traffic congestion for three days, Reddy admitted that it may throw vehicular movement out of gear. But since it is being done for the sake of citizens of Bengauru, they must must cooperate with the Congress. The implementation of the Mekedatu project will take care of the drinking water needs of Bengalureans for the next 30-40 years., he said.
