Padayatra: Cops working on plans to prevent traffic chaos

Bengaluru traffic police officials held a marathon meeting to find out alternative routes in the wake of Congress Party’s padayatra urging the Government to construct a balancing reservoir at Mekedatu in Kanakapura taluk of Ramanagara district.

The padayatra in Bengaluru city is for three days starting from March 1. On account of Maha Shivaratri on March 1, the impact of padayatra is likely to be less as it is a government holiday. However the challenge for the traffic police comes in the next two days.

“Meetings to discuss the alternate routes for the motorists during the three day padayatra were discussed in a lengthy meeting on Saturday morning. Police inspectors of traffic police stations in whose jurisdiction the padayatra passes have been asked to come up with possible solutions. Leaves of all traffic policemen for the three days stands cancelled,” an assistant commissioner of police attached to a traffic sub-division told NT.

A detailed release on the alternate routes will be disclosed before the entry of padayatra into Bengaluru. The padayatra on March 1 will be from Kengeri (Poornima Convention Hall) up to Advaith petrol Bunk). On March 2, it will be from the Advaith Petrol Bunk up to Palace Grounds. On March 3, it will be from the Palace Grounds (Gayatri Grand) up to National College Sports Ground.

The Congress Party has decided to take out padayatra inside Bengaluru for three days instead of five days as planned earlier.
