Longer runway, high-speed rail link to Chennai: Mysureans a happy lot

The tourism and hospitality sector stakeholders in Mysuru are elated over the fulfillment of some of their demands including the extension of the Mysuru Airport runway, establishment of the 460km Mysuru-BengaluruChennai high speed railway corridor and the ropeway project in Chamundi hills.

They have lauded the moves for a tourism circuit connecting Mysuru, Srirangpatna, Hassan, Beluru and Halebeedu and pension of Rs 2000 for 400 tourist guides. Mysuru Palace board authorities were happy with the provision to upgrade the sound and light show of Mysuru Palace to 4D to make it attractive.

Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) authorities too were happy over the allocation of Rs 89 crores for renovation of buildings of KR Hospital of MMCRI which will complete 100 years next year. President of Federation of Organisations and Associations of Mysuru (FOAM) Mr Prashanth B S, said, “We welcome the move to develop an incense stick (agarbatti) cluster in Mysuru, and a global technology centre at Karnataka State Open University. ‘’We were also expecting funds for the film city project in Mysuru. The jewellery park should have been allotted to Mysuru as Bengaluru is already choked,” he said.

Mysuru Hotel owners association head Mr C Narayangowda said they were expecting the announcement of Dasara authority and Tourism development authority and a relief package for employees of hotels, who have suffered due to Covid which have not happened.

Working women from rural areas who travel to Mysuru, are happy with the move to establish hostels for them. Students have also welcomed the move to establish Deen Dayaal Upaadhya Sauhaarda multi storied hostels which can accommodate 1000 students.

Mysuru airport authorities were happy with the move to extend the existing 1740 meter runway to 2750 meters.
