We all have a starting point in our lives. It could be the beginning of a marriage, a relationship, a business, or a job. The common thing asked is—what it’s going to be like? As we all have expectations before starting anything new, getting prepared to face your first day on a new job can be stressful or exciting, depending on who you are.
Waking up with a feeling of “yes, I am so ready for this” is exciting. Getting ready with a good outfit, packing a work lunch, setting aside a favourite coffee mug and a cleaning out car, are all common experiences. “From which part of the world are you from?” echoed a bold voice in a quiet meeting room was how Ritika was greeted at her first day at work. “Standing there as though I was an alien made me feel strange and smiling to myself, I said ‘hello sir, I am a fresher.’ This was”, at work,” says she.
Discovering a career path and the curiosity to learn more so in a new job is challenging. Living upto high expectations alongside the pressure, trying to perfect is a taxing process. “I was extremely happy with the right job to start my career within a reputed organisation. I made my parents feel so proud of me. Being in a job brings in a lot of responsibility but certainly much easier than studying in a college. The pressure of being bound to office regulations and constant supervision is demanding,” says Thejas, a sales engineer.
Many such beginners have their stories to tell, some nostalgic and some even hilarious. Spending hours perfecting the resume, days of preparing for the job interview, trying hard to impress the interviewers, and then you land a job. “It was a the most memorable day, perhaps a bit stressful. It was a moment filled with mixed emotions, my dreams had come true. It was like being in an entirely new world and it gave m e t h e freedom to showcase my talents. Yes, I was nervous and felt there will be ups and downs and dealing with them positively will make me succeed,” says Arfa Anees an artist at Creative Tale.
Succeeding at a job is to not only about hard work but getting along with your co-workers. Job opportunities can be beneficial for job seekers helping them establish good work habits, time management, experience and financial stability. For Prajwal, a marine engineer, says, “My new job was in a ship and it was a huge challenge and sacrifice for me. I had many personal problems and my first job helped me overcome all this.”
Success lies not in results but in efforts, being the best is not important, doing the best is all that matters. Well, there are new challenges that are waiting for many of us seeking jobs, don’t lose confidence at any point in time and just go with the flow.
From getting ready in the morning to making a good first impression, sets the tone for your work life. And now that you’ve landed the job, good luck to you!
