Scared and bruised, all because of a trumpeting jumbo!

NT Correspondent

The trumpeting of a wild jumbo sent two officers of the revenue department scurrying for cover and in the rush, they fell down and sustained injuries in an incident at Harihalli in Kenchammana Hoskote in Alur taluk on Saturday.

According to sources, the officers had gone for a survey following complaints of encroachment behind Kenchamabika temple, as part of a government programme titled ‘Deputy Commissioners walk to villages” which is essentially an effort to take the district administration to the doorsteps of people. Accordingly, the duo had gone to the village to do survey work.

While they were on the job, they heard an elephant trumpeting and it scared the daylights out of them. In the frenzy to run and save themselves, the two officers ran and in the process stumbled and fell down. Though they did not see the jumbo, the trumpeting was heard about 40 feet away from the Kalyani that was encroached upon, said sources.

Temple priests came to the rescue of one of the officers and provided him first aid. The other officer was hurt in the chest and was taken to a nearby hospital where he underwent ECG and Blood pressure tests. Both officials are said to be out of danger.
