2777 erratic valuation cases; four pay Rs 400 fine!

As many as 2,777 cases of erratic valuation of second PU examination answer scripts were reported and a fine of Rs 400 has been collected from four valuators, said Primary and Secondary Education Minister B.C.Nagesh.
Replying to N. Ravikumar in the State Legislative Council here on Monday, he said while no fine has been collected in the year 2018-19, Rs 400 was collected from four valuators in 2019-20. However, the exams were not held for all but only for who opted for it during the year 2020-21. Discrepancies were found even in the valuation of answer scripts in this examination too and the fine is yet to be collected from the guilty teachers.
Nagesh said every single mark is important in the final examination as it would impact the future of students. Currently, if students gain less than six marks in revaluation of answer scripts due to erratic valuation, it is not added to the results. But henceforth, even if a student gains less than six marks after revaluation, it would be added, he said.
According to the minister, there were 1008 cases of those gaining more than six marks in revaluation after erratic valuation of answer scripts in 2019 while there were 66 cases of students getting less than six marks. In 2021, there were 1540 cases of students getting more than six marks and 31 cases of those securing more than six marks. There was a delay in the collection of the fine amount and it would be done in the coming days, he added.
When Ravikumar said it was a sensitive issue, another BJP MLC, Laxman Savadi said 14 members were elected from the Teachers constituencies. He said if government employees commit a mistake, then every member would take part in the debate and demand action. But the same members are soft on lecturers who are responsible for erratic valuation of answer scripts. This issue has to be discussed but members are not demanding strong action against such erratic valuators, he added.
