‘Ensure implementation of minority welfare programmes’
NT Correspondent
National Commission for Minorities Member Rinchen Lhamo has asked officers to ensure that the programmes launched by the state and union governments for the uplift of minorities reach eligible beneficiaries.
Addressing a news conference here on Thursday after reviewing the progress of various programmes, she said those belonging to six religions fall in the categories of minorities but they must live together with the feeling of oneness. The purpose of her visit is to remove bottlenecks, if any in providing benefits to the minorities as well as hear their grievances.
Lhamo said she had visited Mahabodhi School in Mysuru, St Philomena’s Church and Tibetan Rehabilitation Centre and heard their grievances. At Tibetan Rehabilitation Centre, there was a problem of good roads during the rainy season, street lights, buses and footpaths. The district authorities were asked to attend to these works on priority, she added.
She also asked officials to study the social, economic and academic standards of the minorities and submit a memorandum to the union government. Deputy Commissioner Dr Bagadi Gautam directed officials to effectively implement the schemes launched by the state and the union governments for the welfare of minorities.
