HDK: People gave me ‘supari’ to finish off Cong, BJP
NT Correspondent
Former CM and JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy on Friday cynically remarked that people of Karnataka have given him ‘supari’ to remove the Congress and BJP from the state.
Speaking at a rally held at Freedom Park against price rise, Kumaraswamy said Congress leaders were responsible for the installation of the BJP government in the state. “My coalition government was removed by illegal means and in the same manner, the BJP government came to power. But now, Congress leaders are terming the BJP government illegitimate”.
Lambasting the BJP government for the ‘sub-standard’ civic works, Kumaraswamy lamented that people are dying because of potholes while a girl was killed while trying to cross a busy road. The courts have admonished the government but those in power are hardly concerned about people killed in mishaps, he said.
Kumaraswamy also noted that well known tehnocrat, Mohandas Pai had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking better infrastructure in Bengaluru City. The BJP has brought Karnataka to this sorry state of affairs.
The situation is such that the state government will not act unless it is told to do so by the courts or PM Modi himself. This is the style of functioning of the BJP government, he quipped.
Referring to claims made by Congress leaders that BJP leaders had given him supari to oppose the Congress, Kumaraswamy said, “I have been given supari by people to talk about irrigation projects.’’
HDK seeks security for litterateurs after threat calls
Former CM and JD(S) Leader H.D. Kumaraswamy has urged the state government to provide security to 61 Kannada litterateurs following alleged threat calls made to them by an organisation called ‘Sahishnu Hindu’
Kumaraswamy told reporters here on Friday that the Hindu organization has issued threats to litterateurs including Kum. Veerabhadrappa for speaking in support of hijab and against the introduction of Bhagavadgita in schools. The threat must be taken in all seriousness and security must be provided, he added.
“I am not scared a bit as I believe in god. Whatever must happen is going to take place. The state has seen how a veteran litterateur, Prof M.M. Kalburgi was gunned down in Dharwad a few years ago.,’’ he said.
