In a curious twist to the murder of realtor Umesh, the Byadarahalli police on Monday night arrested his wife, Varalakshmi, for allegedly killing her husband.

Umesh, 52, was hit on the head with an iron rod at his residence at Sai Baba Layout in Andrahalli on Monday. He succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.

The police team had first suspected some unidentified assailants behind the crime. Later, they zeroed in on Varalakshmi as they found discrepancies in her statement.

The woman confessed to the crime after the police recovered the blood-stained iron rod from the house. She told the police that she killed her husband because she was unable to bear his violent behaviour.

During the interrogation, Varalakshmi said her husband used to abuse her and their two daughters and never cared for them.

She told police that Umesh was very furious at her on Sunday and kicked her for not giving birth to a boy. Later in the night, she saw Umesh in a deep sleep. She then decided to get rid of him. She then took the iron rod and hit Umesh’s head.

Police also said she washed the iron rod and hid it in her house. She sat near her husband’s body until morning.

Sanjeev M Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru West, said,

“When the neighbors asked her, she said some unidentified assailants entered the house and attacked Umesh.”
