Nadda green flags mini rejig in Bommai govt

Bengaluru/Vijayanagar: The BJP high command is learnt to have given the green signal for a ‘mini Cabinet rejig’ in Karnataka and the induction of four or five new faces by dropping an equal number of longserving ministers to strike a balance in the Basavaraj Bommai Cabinet.

Chief Minister Bommai reportedly had a talk with BJP National President J.P. Nadda over a range of issues including the muchawaited Cabinet reshuffle/ expansion and appointment of another set of party workers and MLAs as chairpersons of various boards and corporations. Nadda is said to have agreed to a minor reshuffle as a mega exercise would be akin to stirring an hornet’s nest. Since the number of aspirants is much more than the berths, it was better to keep the rejig as ‘small and tidy’ as possible without giving scope for any conflict among leaders, he told the CM on the sidelines of the BJP state executive in Hosapete which concluded on Sunday.

So instead of dropping 8-10 ministers and deploying them for party work, it was reportedly decided to restrict the number of exits to four or five ministers.

The two-day BJP State Executive Committee meeting at Hosapete in Vijayanagar ended with a call by top leaders to achieve the target of 150 seats in the 2023 Assembly elections and to take programmes of both the state and the Union governments to people to win their confidence.

Attended by BJP National President J.P.Nadda and BJP National General Secretary and In-Charge of Karnataka Affairs Arun Singh, the conclave urged the rank and file of the party to get into the poll mode from now on and defeat the vilification campaign launched by the Congress Party which has been out of power for almost four years. The ministers must work hard in the next 12 months and try to fulfill all promises made to the people of Karnataka. “You must tread carefully as your every step is being watched by the opposition Congress and any mistake will be blown out of proportion to tarnish the image of the party. Don’t rest till the next Assembly elections since you have to beat the anti-incumbency factor as dwas one by Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath in the recently-held Assembly polls”.

Addressing the gathering, Nadda felt party leaders must become the instruments of change and the change in south India must happen through Karnataka. “Our vision and goal must be clear. We have not gathered to occupy the chairs here. Those gathered here must become the means to change society. Our party leaders and workers must visit villages and dedicate themselves to their welfare. The Congress Party is no longer Indian National Congress as it is neither Indian nor national but only restricted to two states. Dynasty politics prevails in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and in the Janata Dal (Secular) too. We have already discussed how to face the coming Assembly polls. The work of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai must be taken to people in villages,’’ he added.
