By NT Correspondent
Mysuru: Scion of the erstwhile Mysore royal family, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar will be leading a protest rally in Mysuru on Wednesday against the proposed demolition of two iconic structures, Devaraja Market and Lansdowne building which have reportedly become weak and fragile due to lack of maintenance.
Recently, the district Heritage committee headed by the deputy commissioner(DC) and chairman of the committee had resolved to demolish both structures and re-build it in the original style. The decision was taken after the high court of Karnataka sought the opinion of the Heritage committee following a petition filed by the tenants of Devaraja Market against demolition of the historic market.
Unhappy over the Committee’s recommendation for the demolition of the two structures, Wadiyar will be marching from Chikkagadiyara in front of Devaraja Market to the office of the deputy commissioner at 11 am. Hundreds of Mysureans will be accompanying the scion who feels that both buildings can be restored with minor repairs.
