The Joint Committee of Trade Unions announced a rally from Town Hall to Freedom Park on May 1 to commemorate May Day. More than 10,000 workers are said to participate in the event in which they will protest against the union government’s policies that infringe on the rights of workers.

Vijay Bhaskar of AITUC said that the day will be observed for workers’ rights and for uniting various sections of society. “Leaders at the state and Centre are dividing the people on the basis of religion and caste. They are creating issues like hijab, halal and loudspeakers to divide the society,” he said.

“Inflation is rising, but wages are not. Governments are also negligent about minimum wages,” Nagnath, State General Secretary of Hind Mazdoor Sabha said.

He informed that the rally will begin at Town Hall and culminate at Freedom Park with an open meeting.

“The meeting will be inaugurated by retired Supreme Court judge Justice V Gopal Gowda,” he said.

Trade union leaders expressed concern regarding the changes made to labour laws.
