Mysuru: In a bid to help the Indian medical students who returned from Ukraine following the outbreak of a war with Russia nearly two months ago, JSS Higher Education and Research Academy and JSS Medical College, Mysuru will offer academic help to complete their medical course. However, a degree will not be issued for such students.

Hundreds of Indian students pursuing their medical course in Ukraine and Russia returned home after war broke out between the two countries. Empathising with them on their plight, Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji of Suttur Mutt has agreed to provide all forms of academic support for such students in JSS Medical College. Practical and theory classes besides laboratory learning facilities will be provided on humanitarian grounds. This is also applicable for Indian students who returned from China recently. If a student was studying first year in a medical college in Ukraine or Russia, he/she will be allowed to pursue the same year here too. The bridge course being offered by the JSS Medical College is in tune with the decision taken by the state government in the interest of such students.

According to sources, suitable skills training will be imparted to those students to conduct both the theory and practical classes by making use of skill labs and virtual cases. While no fees will be collected from these students, they have to make their own boarding and lodging arrangements. This academic support is given only on a temporary basis.

Dr D Sunil Kumar, assistant professor of Community Medicine, JSS Medical College, said it is being done because of the international atmosphere and to support education as desired by the Suttur seer. “It was resolved to support the displaced Indian students who were studying medical courses abroad (including Ukraine, Russia and China). This support will be in the form of bridge courses as permissible by the law. The students will also be provided clinical observer-ship. The programme is offered purely as a transient academic support for students who are in distress. Students desirous to utilise the bridge courses can contact him on mobile number 63663 66663 or email at jiii@jssuni.edu.in.
