Mandya village receives 6 cm rainfall, highest in state

Bengaluru: The village of Bellur in Mandya district received the highest volume of rains in the state at 6 cm, Indian Meteorological Department data has revealed.

The observation was made at 08:30 am on Saturday. Parts of Udupi, Tumakuru, Haveri, Bengaluru and Kodagu districts also received torrential downpour, IMD said.

“Chief rainfall amounts (in cm): Bellur (Mandya dt) 6; Karkala (Udupi dt), Madhugiri (Tumakuru dt) 5 each; Kelvarkop, Hirekerur (both Haveri dt), Bengaluru HAL Airport, Bukkapatna (Tumakuru dt), Murnadu (Kodagu dt) 4 each,” an IMD statement said.

“Rainfall occurred at a few places over Coastal Karnataka & South Interior Karnataka and at isolated places over North Interior Karnataka,” IMD added. They have forecast showers to continue in the state for the next two days. “Rain/thundershowers very likely to occur at many places over Coastal Karnataka & South Interior Karnataka and at isolated places over North Interior Karnataka,” it said.

Parts of Mangalore, Karwar and areas within south Karnataka also received heavy rainfall. “Dharmasthala (Dakshina Kannada dt), Banavasi, Sirsi Agro (both Uttara Kannada dt), Savanur (Haveri dt), Hesaraghatta (Bengaluru Urban dt), Harapanahalli (Davangere dt), Magadi (Ramanagara dt), Napoklu (Kodagu dt) 3 (cm) each,” IMD said.
