Buggy racing craze sweeps through Mysuru
By NT Correspondent
Mysuru: The first radio-controlled (RC) National Championship of the year 2022 was hosted in Mysuru with over 60 participants in seven categories.
Racers from Sri Lanka, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kerala, Bengaluru and Mysuru participated in the three-day event, which concluded on Sunday. The race was held with international regulations and hosted by RCMYSORE and sponsored by Sunpure.
Cars costing from Rs 40,000 to over a lakh were present. The two prominent classifications of cars were the Nitro Buggy runs on nitromethane (fuel) and the Electric Buggy.
A buggy car racing enthusiast Abdul Hannan Khan, who came second in the ‘Short Course Truck’ category, in conversation with News Trail said, “It’s the first of its kind in the city and also, this is the first time in India that a track was designed by an international pro champion.”
Abdul strongly believes that it will grow among different age groups. The youngest rider was a six-year-old and the eldest was over 60. “It stimulates the mind and body and creates a sense of responsibility. It also drives the crucial parts of the brain,” he said.
Khan, who’s also a co-owner of Sunpure, called out to the ones back at home playing PlayStation to take up buggy racing. “This helps society shape better, especially the younger generation, who should spend their time outside and get good exposure rather than keep looking at screens.”
One of the challenges according to him is that its spare parts are not easily available and “we have to depend on each other heavily.”
A racer needs to build and repair the car on their own and “these skills are not inculcated when staying at home.” Abdul requested everyone who prefers staying back at home to take up buggy and add value to their time.
