Bengaluru: Travellers cruising into Karnataka with fake Covid certificates - the jig is up. Officials are now checking QR codes of each RT-PCR test, after two people were caught red-handed trying to gain entry into Karnataka with fake certificates. Determined not to let these fall through the cracks, a senior official from the Karnataka Health Department told News Trail that a “high-alert” has been sounded. “Additional staff have been deployed in the make-shift camp at the Bavali checkpost on the Karnataka-Kerala border.”

The officer also said that there are some computer centres near the Kerala - Karnataka border, which are reportedly issuing fake RT-PCR reports by charging Rs 200 for each.

These fake certificates are being forged using the authentic reports, onto which the credentials and pictures of individuals are placed. “The number of people entering Karnataka from Kerala has dropped considerably due to the rise in Covid-positive cases in the neighbouring state,” the officer said.
