Mysuru: The city residents will have to endure the existing bad roads for another one month as the Mysuru City Corporation would take up the works only after the poll code concludes on June 20, said city Mayor Sunanda Palanethra.

Addressing a news conference here, she said Rs 50 crore has been allocated for the road repair works, but the election code of conduct has come in the way of doing it. Once the poll code ends on June 20, the road beautification works would be taken up. The mayor clarified that no house has collapsed in the city due to heavy rains in the last few days. The MCC was ready 24X7 to deal with the situation. The low-lying areas were inundated due to heavy rains and the authorities rushed to the aid of the affected immediately. The excess rain caused some problems in the north and west of the city.

She said Devaraja Market and Lansdowne building which have caved in certain portions would be repaired with the suggestions from the structural engineers. With regard to the collapse of a portion of the century old Vani Vilasa Market, she said it happened due to heavy rain. The repair works were on at that market and it would be restored.

The government had given money for the restoration of both Devaraja and Lansdowne buildings, she added.
