FKCCI for better rail links to ports

Bengaluru Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) suggested the fast-tracking of projects being taken up to increase the port-to-hinterland rail capacity in order to ease congestion at the Mangaluru Port. Following the formation of a separate Directorate for the PM Gati Shakti Scheme at the Railway Board in Bengaluru last week, FKCCI has requested to ensure that the projects being taken up are commissioned early. “This will fulfil the need for integrated and seamless connectivity for the movement of passengers, goods and services from one mode of transport to another. It will also facilitate last-mile connectivity and reduce travel time and cost,” FKCCI President I S Prasad said. The FKCCI President added that exporters expect the projects to pave the way for more freight terminals and Inland Container Depots (ICS) which will reduce the dwell time of cargo and keep the Port fluid. FKCCI also expressed hopes for more such PM Gati Shakti Directorates at divisional levels in the coming days
