Cops clear scrap off Siddaiah Road sidewalk
Bengaluru
Wilson Garden police on Wednesday cleared scrap off a footpath citing obstruction of pedestrians.
They said scrap dealers had been served several notices to clear the discarded goods.
A police official serving under Wilson Garden Police Station said the scrap heap amounted to an encroachment. “They had dumped all their material on the footpath and it had been an obstruction to the public. It has been cleared now. It was mainly scrap material. We had issued several notices to them. Despite that, they had blocked the footpath. The people who had dumped them were forced to take their material back,” he said.
He clarified that the issue was settled amicably with scrap shop owners. “Scrap shops based near Siddaiah Road had been responsible. Several notices had been served to them by traffic police,” he added.
He said that the Waqf Board had gotten involved and advised shopkeepers to clear the sidewalk. “The Waqf Board and their people, including their president held a meeting with the shop owners and advised them to clear the path,” he added.
“About 80 percent of it has been cleared and we still have to remove some 15 to 20 percent of it. It’s almost entirely clear now,” he said. The police official added that scrap dealing was commonplace near the Siddaiah Road and that the cops had been co-coordinating with local businessmen for the upkeep of the area.
