Bengaluru:

The seventh edition of Indian Machine Tools Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA)’s IMTEX Forming – a mega exhibition on metal forming technologies, kicked off at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) here on Thursday.

Karnataka Minister for Higher Education, IT & BT Ashwath Narayan inaugurated the exhibition along with IMTMA’s officials. The minister said, “Karnataka’s share in the total machine tools’ manufacturing in India is about 50 percent. The Jalahalli and Peenya areas of the city house a large number of machine tools manufacturers and suppliers, contributing significantly to the state’s machine tools supply chain.”

Ironically, the area is home to multiple units of the PSU Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT), including its iconic watch factory. HMT is now largely defunct, due to which vast areas of its campus wear a deserted look.

USA, Japan among several visitors

Various manufacturing firms from countries like the USA, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Turkey and several European countries will reportedly participate in IMTEX-2022. The minister opined that the industrial sector in India would lag behind if it does not update itself to the emerging digital manufacturing technology.

He appreciated the exhibitors for displaying the latest technologies pertaining to additive manufacturing and Industry 4.0. The exhibition will display technologies in metal forming, additive manufacturing, metrology, high-speed LASER machines, automation in sheet-metal working and CAD/CAM that is essential for manufacturing.

Visitors will have to register online on the IMTEX-2022 website by uploading their personal details as well as vaccination certificates.
