The Mysuru city civil court has adjourned the hearing pertaining to the closure of the Farooqia Girls High School and PU College in the city to Wednesday. The development comes a day after students and staff staged protests against the closure of the school, which happened on Saturday afternoon after the students left, following the conclusion of their halfday.

The Deputy Director of Public Instructions (DDPI) and Block Education Officer (BEO) North had cited expiration of licence for shutting down the school. More than 400 students study at the high school and PU college, authorities disclosed.

On Monday, students of the school, members of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), apart from some Congress corporators were joined by local rights groups and women’s organisations in the demonstrations in front of the school, which was guarded by scores of policemen.

The school, located in the Lashkar Maula locality of Mysuru, comes under Rifa Ul Muslimeen Trust (RUMT). Nabeel Khan, a member and superintendent of the trust, said that they hoped for a favourable judgement in the case. “A court judgement was supposed to come out today (Tuesday). However, our opponents did not have certain documents. So the matter has been postponed to tomorrow (Wednesday),” he said.
