Indiranagar roads in pathetic shape

Indiranagar is a wellknown upscale locality in Bengaluru and is located in BBMP’s East zone. It comes under the C V Raman Nagar Assembly Constituency.

The Indiranagar area was part of several wards includeing Hoysala Nagar, Jogupalya, Domlur, Jeevan Bima Nagar and New Thippasan[1] wards. Following the recent delimitation of BBMP wards, ward 121 - Old Thippasandra has emerged as a new ward covering a major portion of Indiranagar.

Though it is an upscale locality with all amenities, the ward is not free of problems. The contrast between different parts of the area in terms of the quality of roads is evident. Roads in the northern half of HAL 2nd Stage of Indiranagar are mostly in a good condition, barring a few junctions. The same is not the case with the portion of the area towards the south of 13th Main Road. Roads of this portion of the ward, bordering the Kodihalli area, are in need of immediate attention. The recent rains have worsened their condition.

Mohan (name changed), a resident of HAL 2nd stage Kodihalli area said that the BBMP has been asphalting the road around Bescom’s Indiranagar Division Office. “It is good that they are doing it, but it should have been done neatly. Roads must last for years,” he said

White-topping work is currently underway on the portion of CMH road between 80-feet Road and 2nd Cross. As a result, more vehicles move on the interior roads. This sometimes creates traffic blocks in the area.

Local residents have also been vocal about the rampant issue of indiscreet parking on the lanes of Indiranagar. Some residents have also reported the issue of metro rail users parking their vehicles for hours on lanes near the metro station

New Thippasandra Main Road extends between Indiaranagar’s 80 Feet Road and Suranjan Das Road of C V Raman Nagar. Although a busy connecting road, this road is in bad shape with potholes. Commuting on the already narrow road becomes even more challenging when it rains. Potholes are filled with water and sludge, leading to slow-moving traffic as motorists try to avoid them

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) complex is situated between 14th A Main and 15th Main of HAL 2nd Stage. The stretch of 15th Main along the CISF complex compound wall is littered with garbage. “Most of these spots were cleaned a few months ago, and messages painted on the compound wall asking people to refrain from throwing garbage here. The efforts seem to have had no effect,” a local resident said.

The recent rains have wreaked havoc in many parts of the city, including the Old Thippasandra ward. Spots where repair work was undertaken have become potentially dangerous points for pedestrians and motorists. A couple of spots along the 100- feet road where maintenance work is being carried out with underground electric cables are some such points

Although the 80-feet Road is white-topped, there are some spots where the crossroads join the main road where waterlogging is common. This is mainly due to blockages in the traps that lead to drains.

A portion of the Defence Colony Cricket Ground is also littered with garbage. At the entrance of the Cricket Ground from Link Road 4, one side is used as a dumping site, while the other has several huts. The garbage dumped here also poses a health hazard for the residents as well as labourers living nearby
