Mysuru: South Western Railway (SWR) and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Limited (MRPL) will refuel High-Speed Diesel (HSD) in railway locomotives as per a proposal of the Mysuru division of SWR to implement Total Fuel Management (TFM) with effect from Wednesday at the Railway Consumer Depot at Sakleshpur in Hassan district.
The MRPL, a Fortune 500 company has partnered with Indian Railways to manage its loco-fueling operations through automated Total Fuel Management, the first of its kind in South Western Railway. At present, Railway Consumer Depots (RCDs) monitor the use of fuel and expenditure of diesel manually which could lead to wastage as well as excess expenditure.
TFM is a fully automated online fuel management system to check pilferage/ wastage and bring transparency in fuel management. The commissioning of this system will lead to real-time information about fuel inventories, its receipt, issue, inspection and fuel tank calibration and there will be better management, inventory control while expenditure will also be reduced and fuel-related information including consumption will be known on a real-time basis.
Henceforth, RPL will manage the entire operations of the RCDs, such as storage and disbursal of HSD, maintenance of pumps, pipeline and distribution valves, security and safety of stored HSD stock bringing in professionalism in fuel management.
