Sadashivanagar Police Station junction experienced heavy traffic and congestion during peak hours from Thursday after a part of C V Raman road was closed to traffic.
There was also confusion among BMTC bus drivers of the 401 series regarding the route to reach Yeshwanthpur Circle from Mathikere. The higher-ups at BMTC had not come up with a clear plan to deal with the closure.
The Divisional Officer (North) of the BMTC told News Trail that an alternative route needed to be fixed. “We are yet to conduct a survey, after which the route will be finalized,” he said.
The stretch of C V Raman Road between BHEL Gate (opposite IISc) and Yeshwanthpur Circle will be closed to traffic on one side (for 30 days starting Thursday) as the road is up for white topping. Vehicles moving towards Yeshwanthpur Circle will have to take alternative routes, either through Malleshwaram. Those proceeding to BEL circle will have to take the New BEL Road.
The flex boards informing motorists of the deviation were placed only near IISc gate instead of the Sadashivanagar Police Station junction. As a result, twowheeler riders took a U-turn near Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College junction and passed through a gap in the barricades to proceed on the closed portion of the road to return to BHEL junction.
BMTC buses that had to reach Yeshwanthpur circle from Mathikere were left with no option but to take long detours. The right turn towards Yeshwanthpur Circle at Yeshwanthpur Toll Gate closed down a few years ago. Due to this, vehicles had to move towards BHEL and take a U-turn above the CNR Rao underpass. With this stretch now closed, buses on the 401 series routes have been affected.
Police from Sadashivanagar station told News Trail that U-turn at the junction is not allowed for BMTC buses and that they would have to move towards Mehkri Circle or New BEL road
