The LXXXI Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge court had ordered the registration of an FIR and investigation into the alleged corruption by former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and his family members.
Bribes were allegedly paid when BSY was CM by a construction company in return for contacts from the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA).
The order on September 14 comes exactly a week after the High Court of Karnataka on September 7 directed the Special Court to hear the complaint of corruption afresh.
The lower court had earlier, on July 8, dismissed the complaint as the Governor had refused to give sanction to the complainant, TJ Abraham. The HC, however, ruled that the complainant was not a competent authority to seek sanction from the Governor.
The complaint is against BS Yediyurappa the then Chief Minister of Karnataka and his family members alleging they obtained bribes in return for granting BDA contracts. Apart from BSY, his son BY Vijayendra, grandson Shashidar Maradi, son-in-law Sanjay Sree, businessman Chandrakanth Ramalingam, MLA and current BDA chairperson ST Somashekar, IAS officer Dr GC Prakash, K Ravi and Virupakshappa are the others accused in the private complaint.
TJ Abraham had alleged that work orders were issued in favour of Ms Ramalingam Construction Company Pvt Ltd, owned by Chandrakant Ramalingam, by the BDA as a favour for receiving bribes. IAS officer Dr GC Prakash demanded Rs 12 crore as bribe for the same on behalf of BS Yediyurappa.
Chandrakanth Ramalingam is accused of handing over the cash of Rs 12 crore to K Ravi. This was allegedly collected by Prakash to be paid to BSY through his son BY Vijayendra. Chandrakant allegedly paid BSY’s grandson Shashidar Maradi Rs 12.50 crore. He is also alleged to have paid Rs 12 crore to K Ravi on a demand made by Dr GC Prakash, which was ultimately traced to BSY and BY Vijayendra through their shell companies
